Weekly Rentals Near Gatwick Airport — What Contractors Actually Need

If you're working near Gatwick for a week or more, hotel living gets old fast. Here's what experienced contractors look for in weekly accommodation — and why most options fall short.

We'll start with a confession.

When we set up Waltz Gate near Gatwick, we designed it based on what we thought contractors needed. Nice beds, clean towels, a modern kitchen.

Then the actual contractors arrived. And politely told us what they really needed.

A boot rack by the door. A tumble dryer that actually works. Power sockets next to the bed for charging phones and site radios. Parking wide enough for a Transit van. A washing machine that could handle hi-vis covered in cement dust.

We listened. We adapted. And now, 18 months later, most of our Gatwick bookings come from repeat guests and word-of-mouth referrals.

Here's what we've learned about what people actually want from weekly accommodation near Gatwick.

The Three Things That Matter Most

After hosting hundreds of contractor stays, the feedback is remarkably consistent. Three things come up in almost every review:

1. Free Parking (Non-Negotiable)

This sounds obvious, but it's surprisingly hard to find near Gatwick. Airport hotels charge £10-15/day for parking. That's £70-105 per week just to leave your vehicle somewhere.

At Waltz Gate, you get a private driveway. Your van, your tools, your car — parked right outside, no charges, no time limits, no "guests must move vehicles by 10am" nonsense.

For contractors with company vehicles full of expensive tools, security matters too. Our property is on a quiet residential street in Horley, not an airport hotel car park.

2. A Kitchen You Can Actually Cook In

We don't mean a microwave on top of a mini-fridge. We mean:

  • Full-size oven and hob
  • Dishwasher
  • Large fridge-freezer
  • Pots, pans, plates, cutlery — everything
  • Kettle, toaster, coffee maker

One of our regular guests — an electrical contractor who does 3-4 week rotations at Gatwick Airport — told us he saves about £70 a week by cooking instead of eating out. Over a month, that's £280 back in his pocket.

A proper kitchen changes a long stay from something you endure to something you can actually enjoy.

3. Separate Bedrooms

This is the big one for teams. Two contractors sharing a hotel room for a week? It works for a night or two. By day five, someone's snoring is driving the other person insane.

Waltz Gate has 2 bedrooms — a king with ensuite, and a double/twin with zip-link beds. Two people get their own rooms, their own space, their own sanity. Three people can share comfortably. Up to six at a push.

Compare that to booking 2-3 hotel rooms at £80 each. Suddenly a 2-bedroom apartment at £130/night starts looking very sensible.

Location: Where Is Waltz Gate Exactly?

Horley is a small Surrey town that sits right between Gatwick Airport and Crawley. If you're working anywhere in the Gatwick corridor, you're in the right place:

  • Gatwick Airport (both terminals) — 5 min drive, 1 train stop
  • Manor Royal Business District — 10 min drive
  • Boeing UK — 12 min drive
  • Thales Defence — 12 min drive
  • East Surrey Hospital — 12 min drive
  • Horley Train Station — 5 min walk
  • London Victoria — 35 min by train
  • Brighton — 30 min by train

The Gatwick Northern Runway project is expected to bring thousands of contractors to the area over the next few years. If you're involved in that or the ongoing terminal upgrades, data centre builds, or Manor Royal construction — you're looking at the right accommodation.

What About Other Options?

Let's be honest about the alternatives:

Airport hotels — Convenient location, but small rooms, expensive parking, no kitchen, no laundry. Fine for one night before a flight. Miserable for a week of work.

Premier Inn / Travelodge — Reliable and clean, but you're eating out every meal, paying for parking, and living in a box. Gets expensive and soul-destroying after a few days.

Airbnb — Hit or miss. Could be great, could be someone's spare bedroom with a microwave. Service fees and cleaning fees push the real price higher than it looks.

Serviced apartments (corporate) — Often very nice, but priced for expense accounts. £150-200/night in the Gatwick area for anything decent.

Us — £130/night for a 2-bed apartment with ensuite, kitchen, parking, WiFi, laundry. Sleep up to 6. Split between a team of 3, that's under £45 each per night.
